My Visits to Polanco, The San Angel Inn, the Ancient City of Teotihuacan
Last week I shared all about my wonderful adventures. My third week in Mexico City did not disappoint.
Making Connections
First up is my time in Polanco with Roshida Dowe. It was our first meeting and we became instant friends! Everyone needs a person who will encourage them to break out of their comfort zone. @shidad is ONE of the people who does it for me and thousands of other women too! Her YouTube channel focuses on helping women live outside the box. She herself retired at 39, traveled the world, and is now a resident of Mexico . When you start to feel trapped by the life you have co-created/accepted, look to the people who have liberated themselves. Each of us has a unique road to travel but we sure can learn from, and grow with one another.
Roshida and I met for lunch and she let me come along on her quest to find the perfect necklace. We headed to TRAFICO BAZAR in Polanco. When you see a photo of me feeling lovely, and living my best life in a glorious, flowing, RED, birthday dress by @casanativa.mx … you’ll know the person who’s to blame! While in Polanco, I quickly realized that it would be the place THE LOVER would feel most comfortable living in CDMX. I’m not trying to put him on blast but… he fancy! LOL!
Dreams To Reality
I explain in the video that one of my best friends was celebrating her anniversary in CDMX. I wasn’t trying to bust in on her romantic time, but didn’t hesitate about saying yes to a couple of invites to dinner! Oh, let me tell you about two awesome spots! First up, we’ve got The San Angel Inn—a classic gem. This place is all about charm and history. It’s an old hacienda-turned-restaurant in Mexico City. You’ve got the lush gardens, beautiful courtyards, and a cozy atmosphere. The food is nice too, they serve up traditional Mexican dishes in very theatrical ways. It’s definitely a spot that does out of it’s impress tourists which may or may not be your cup of tea.
What made the spot an absolute delight was remembering that 32 years before we ate at this elegant place in Mexico, we had dreamed of being able to afford it. At the time, we had no idea the original spot for the San Angel Inn was in Mexico. We first spotted the Inn, in Florida! The San Angel Inn restaurant shares its name with an iconic dining establishment in the Mexico Pavilion at Epcot, Walt Disney World in Florida.
Inside the Epcot San Angel Inn, you’ll find a beautiful replica of a colonial-style hacienda, complete with lush gardens, a romantic waterfront setting, and ambient lighting that creates an enchanting atmosphere. It’s designed to transport guests to a charming Mexican courtyard, with its vibrant colors, traditional architecture, and soothing sounds of a nearby river.
Annette and I grew up in the Bronx. We had vivid imaginations and a lot of nerve. We were some of a handful of kids who ventured far beyond our own neighborhoods. We made a pact on the day we first saw the San Angel Inn; one day, we’d be able to afford it! I’m here to tell you that dreams come true.
EXPLORING ANCIENT WONDERS
Now, let’s talk about Teotihuacan—it’s mind-blowing! This ancient city is like stepping into a time machine. It’s a UNESCO World Heritage site, and for good reason. You’ll find massive pyramids, like the Pyramid of the Sun and the Pyramid of the Moon. Climbing to the top gives you incredible views and a real sense of awe. The energy there is just electric! You can stroll down the Avenue of the Dead, explore the ancient ruins, and soak up the rich history. It’s like walking in the footsteps of the Aztecs. Teotihuacan is a must-visit for any history lover or adventurer seeking an unforgettable experience. Just make sure to bring comfy shoes and a camera, ’cause you’ll be doing a lot of walking and capturing epic shots.
My host was wonderful and you can find him HERE.
So, if you’re in the mood for a charming and historical dining experience, head to The San Angel Inn. And when you’re ready to unleash your inner explorer and witness the marvels of an ancient civilization, Teotihuacan is the place to be. Get ready for good food, good vibes, and incredible sights. These two spots will definitely leave you with memories to treasure!
