How to Make This Your “Best Summer Ever” (Life Coaching For Locas)
Before you get tempted to roll your eyes at this very simple exercise, I want you to keep in mind that sometimes the simplest things in life can yield the best results. This is one of the exercises that my life coach gave me that I loved.
It really helped me sort out, not just what I wanted to do in life, but how I wanted to FEEL.
INSTRUCTIONS:
NUMBER ONE… This exercise should be fun!
Allow yourself 5-10 minutes of quiet time to write your answers. I am a big believer in keeping a journal but feel free to print this page out. (A .pdf is available here) If you get stuck, think back to your childhood or a summer when you had a great time – what were you doing – or NOT doing?
Tip: If your thoughts seem overly simple – that’s ok. If your life is busy with not many options right now, find small things you CAN do for you (eg. a 20-minute walk before work or after dinner, organize a weekend away if a longer vacation isn’t possible, arrange a dinner with friends at a restaurant with a nice patio if you’re too tired to cook, drink more water, etc.).
Need some more ideas? Read a book, GOOGLE “Free Stuff Near Me” and see what comes up, try something new (it’s free, what have you got to lose?) Visit friends or family, relax on the beach, go fishing, meet new people, do something you used to love, listen to music, eat outside (at a park, beach, your backyard or even on your lunch break), get out in nature or perhaps do something completely different! And remember – your best summer ever may be about what you DON’T do as well…
Write the Top 10 things that would MAKE THIS YOUR BEST SUMMER EVER:
Imagine the sun is shining. You’re relaxed, happy, can’t help but smile and are at peace with yourself and the world.
This IS your “Best Summer Ever”. What are you doing? What’s going on in your life?
TOP TIP: The stronger this vision is, the more likely you are to have or do what you write. In other words, even if the idea is simple, write down as much detail as you can. For example, if you want to “Read a book,” expand and say, “I read “The Alchemist” by Paulo Coelho. I bought a soft cover book so I could stick it in my purse and read a few pages where ever I go. Just before bed, I make sure to read at least 2 pages. This is my partner’s favorite book, it makes me feel so connected to him/her now. I understand something new about her/him that makes me smile.”
In this little group of sentences, you have listed “your thing,” a practical plan to make your thing happen and how you feel about your thing. Do not underestimate this exercise. The simple act of writing things down can be a powerful tool in manifesting and making changes to your life. To read more about this follow THIS LINK.
I chose the summertime list because these plans can be easy enough. Many times, my clients want to make some BIG changes to the way they feel about life but they just need a place to start. Big changes can come from small steps. TRUST ME.
